Fire Safety & Grilling Guidelines

Your safety and the protection of our beautiful Tahoe environment are our top priorities. Please review these essential guidelines during your stay:

General Fire Restrictions (Incline Village & Crystal Bay, NV):

No Open Burning: Seasonal open burning (wood, slash, or needle piles) is strictly prohibited.

No Recreational Fires at Rental Properties: Recreational fires (e.g., in fire pits, using wood or charcoal) are NOT permitted on short-term rental properties, even with a permit.

Barbecue Grilling (Gas, Propane, Charcoal, Pellet):

Barbecuing is allowed, but must strictly adhere to manufacturer's guidelines and these safety tips:

Outdoor Use Only: Grills must always be used outdoors, far away from the house, deck railings, eaves, or overhanging branches.

Clearance: Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill.

Cleanliness: Always keep your grill clean, free of grease or fat buildup.

Never Unattended: Do not leave a lit grill unattended.

Lid Open: Always ensure the grill lid is open before lighting.

Propane Grill Specifics:

Leak Check: Before first use each year (or if moving/reconnecting), check the gas tank hose for leaks. Apply a light soap and water solution to the hose; a leak will release bubbles.

Gas Smell/Leak: If you smell gas while cooking, or if a leak (by smell or bubbles) does not stop, immediately turn off the gas tank and grill, leave the grill, and call the fire department (Do NOT move the grill). If the leak stops after turning off, the grill must be serviced by a professional before using it again.

Flame Goes Out: If the flame goes out during use, turn the grill and gas off and wait at least 15 minutes before re-lighting.

Charcoal Grill Specifics:

Non-Combustible Surface: Charcoal grills are prohibited on combustible surfaces.

Starting Charcoal: Use charcoal chimney starters with newspaper or electric charcoal starters (ensure an outdoor-rated extension cord if needed). NEVER use charcoal starter fluid or any other flammable liquids.

Safe Disposal: When finished, let the coals cool completely before disposing of them in a metal container.

Red Flag Warnings: NO OPEN FLAME OF ANY KIND

During Red Flag Warnings, absolutely NO open flame of any kind is allowed, including all types of grilling (gas, propane, charcoal, pellet, etc.). Fire restrictions may differ on Federal land. Please be aware of current fire condition

Damages Policy

This Damages Policy outlines the procedures and guidelines for addressing damages caused by guests during their stay at our vacation home rental property. It aims to establish a clear process for reporting, assessing, and addressing damages to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all guests.

Reporting Damages

Guests who notice any damages in the vacation home should immediately report them to our property management or designated contact.

Assessment of Damages

Depending on the severity, we may involve relevant professionals, such as maintenance staff or contractors, to evaluate and estimate the repair or replacement cost. The assessment will determine the course of action required and the associated costs.

Responsibility for Damages

Guests found responsible for causing the damage will be held financially accountable for the repair or replacement costs. Responsibility will be established through investigations, photographic evidence, or any other relevant information. Guests may be required to reimburse the full cost of repairs or replacements.

Repair or Replacement

Once the assessment is complete, we will initiate the necessary repair or replacement activities as soon as possible. The cost of repairs or replacement will be charged to the responsible guest's account or security deposit, depending on the circumstances. In cases of severe or intentional damage, we reserve the right to pursue legal action if necessary.

Here's how to use your evaporative cooler:

Location, Location, Location: Place the cooler near a window or door for optimal airflow. This allows warm air to be drawn out while cool air circulates in the room.

Fill 'Er Up: Open the water tank and fill it with clean water. For an extra cooling boost, add ice packs or ice cubes from the freezer (located in [freezer location, e.g., kitchen]).

Cool Fact: Tahoe's Mountain Magic Keeps You Comfortable!

Many people wonder about air conditioning (A/C) at our place in Tahoe. Here's a surprising fact: Less than 5% of homes here actually have it!

Why? Because Tahoe's unique location provides natural air conditioning most of the year. Here's the secret:

High Elevation, Cool Evenings: Tahoe's mountain altitude means cooler temperatures. Even during the hottest summer days, the temperature drops significantly (around 40 degrees!) at night.

Open Windows, Fresh Air: Keeping windows open at night allows cool mountain air to circulate throughout the house, naturally cooling the space.

Safe Mountain Community: Tahoe boasts a very safe environment. Residents, including myself, leave windows open overnight with complete peace of mind.

So, you can relax, open those windows, turn on the fans, and enjoy the refreshing mountain air!
